JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC)

The objectives of JCLC are to

(1) Provide Cadets an opportunity to practice leadership skills in an unfamiliar environment.

(2) Allow Cadets a chance to participate in citizenship-building exercises.

(3) Give Cadets the opportunity to experience living and interacting with their peers from other schools in a military-type setting.

(4) Instruct leadership-type skills to Cadets in a hands-on military-type environment.

(5) Provide an opportunity to participate in adventure training not normally available to Cadets.

(6) Take advantage of recreational facilities and to have fun

JCLC takes place in June each year after the school year has ended.  Cadets who have completed their first, second, and third year of JROTC are typically selected for this training.  Training takes place over a 5-day period including overnight stays.  Cadets from all the different schools in Tennessee are mixed into companies.  Cadets in each company will train, learn, eat, sleep, and have fun together (of course male and female Cadets have separate sleeping and bathroom areas).  Some Cadets are selected for leadership positions which rotate each day of the training. They are evaluated during their leadership period and receive feedback from their Instructor on their strengths and areas where they can improve their leadership skills.  Training typically conducted includes - Rappelling, Leadership Reaction Course, Land Navigation, Aquatics, Wilderness Survival, and Confideance Course. Cadets receive three meals per day and have fun nighttime activities such as team sports, team-building skills, and additional leadership training.  This training is voluntary for Cadets and there are no fees for Cadets to participate.  Participating Cadets are supervised and trained by JROTC Instructors in the district 24/7 to ensure their safety and facilitate their learning experience.  Trained medical personnel are on-site throughout the training.
